DESCRIPTION OF THE SHOW:

The characters of „Night and Days” are clinging to some points of reference, lasting values – different for each of them – but this hunger is by no means satisfied. The search ends with the processing of successive clichés, an inept attempt to reproduce them. The clichés are treated literally in the play. The Bielski performance consists of a series of familiar images, those that are stuck in almost everyone’s imagination, although we may not necessarily know where they came from or what their meaningful context is. This procedure is meant to reveal the mechanism that runs through the thinking of the play’s characters, but also of ourselves: it is the seductive images, not any truth, that subjugate thought processes and memory, that arrange reality into one story or another.

EXCERPTS FROM REVIEWS:

In Julia Mark’s play (…) the characters meet at the bottom of a dried-up lake, where Barbara’s (Jagoda Krzywicka) beloved nenufars may have once grown. And the godlike narrative? The creators play up the insurgent history with taste, recreating frames from paintings by Grottger and Chelmonski in the opening scene of the play. However, there is a lot of longing here. The characters, immersed in melancholy, in Justyna Elminowska’s delightful costumes, are in constant remembrance. Only the poor peasants, due to the plague, communing with death every day, seem to believe in the „here and now”. The first part is crowned with an excellent scene. The characters allow themselves a moment of honesty. Barbara dreams of the romantic times of the uprising, Michasia longs for the life of the metropolis, although her husband longs for a secluded home. While Bogumil craves Barbara’s love. Their desires will not be satisfied, as they all long for a world that never existed (…)
